Dutch Silver Tobacco Box – Antique Circa 1690 – A9024

Hello my name’s Andrew Campbell, welcome to
AC Silver. This fine and impressive rare antique 17th
century Dutch silver tobacco box is quite an exceptional example. It has an oval rounded form. The underside is embellished with exceptional
chased decorated scene depicting a lady draped across soft furnishings and accompanied by
a bearded male, with putto observing this act amidst a stately garden backdrop. The sides of the box are encompassed with
chased decorated grotesque mask and scrolling leaf decoration, accented with floral motifs,
all on a matte background. The piece retains the original hinged cover
embellished with further impressive chased decoration depicting a male and female character
eating and drinking with a rural city scene in the background. All the decoration is very sharp. Hallmarks to the underside are very clear. At a weight of 4.8 troy ounces, it is an excellent
gauge of silver. This box is the finest of its type you could
hope to acquire. The highlighted features of this exceptional
tobacco box, make it one that could be sold with my highest recommendations. If you require any further information or
assistance regarding this exceptional tobacco box, please do not hesitate to contact us
via telephone or email.
